A genre of
music most popular with late high school-college age students, boys and girls alike. Excellent for road trips, experimentation with
sex and/or marijuana, and "chill" afternoons. Douche
rock is not quite underground and not quite
MTV-mainstream, allowing listeners to feel as if they listen to groups that the masses are not yet aware of.
Douche
rock acts usually blur the lines between
rock, reggae, folk, and jam-band without ever becoming legitimate in any genre. They can most easily be found at summer
music festivals and outdoor venues such as Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin. The music is often characterized by an acoustic guitar toting frontman backed by a band that is almost certainly more talented than he is.
Most fans of douche
rock will attempt at some point to cross over into legitimate reggae, folk, or jam-band fanbases, concerts or festivals. This can have mixed results. Many quickly rush back to the security of the Jeep Liberty their parents bought them and their collection of 'Dave' bootlegs.

"Dude, wanna go catch Jack
Johnson's 3 night stand at Deer Creek?"
"Nah, one night of douche
rock is about all I can stand."
