degradation trip 

Coined by artist Jerry Cantrell on his sophomore album under the same name, a Degradation Trip is often interpreted as a reverse victory lap. Instead of looking back on what you have done with pride, it is more akin to wallowing in your own regret as a way to punish yourself into doing better in the future.
In the case of Jerry Cantrell, it comes as a looking back at his time in the band Alice In Chains before the tragic death of lead singer Layne Staley. What he would have done different, and what he would have said different, and looking at his own life to reflect on if he is going down the same path.

Guy 1: "Hey man, you alright?"
Guy 2: "Yeah, just kind of reflecting on mistakes. A Degradation Trip if you will."
