A female travel companion. This is the female you generally room with and spend all your time with at conferences and conventions. Sometimes this is a totally platonic partner; other times this partner satisfies a sexual or emotional need. It's especially fun to pretend that your otherwise platonic friend is in fact your sexual partner as you gallivant around the tourist attractions of the city. Conference Wife 

The woman that you meet up or travel with at conferences that you do everything with while there such as dinners, conference socials, and often times sharing a hotel room to save money . She looks out for the guy (or gal because women can also have a conference wife too). To others, it would appear that this couple is in a marriage or serious relationship when this type of relationship is usually non-sexual although it's not uncommon for the lines to get blurred on occasion.

The girls didn't hit on me at the bar because they thought my conference wife was my girlfriend.
