audiophilism

The philosophy of extracting all of the possible sonic and acoustical capabilities out of high fidelity stereos, or home theater equipment into that of a more correct representation that mimics the original audio recording. This can be done through several methods. The main ingridients for this philosophy are "separation and isolation" of audio frequencies, electro magnetic interference, vibration and resonance, and radio frequency interference. Another ingredient is that the conductance between electric audio signal transfer must also be kept high with low resistant materials being present within the specific components' circuitry. The most accurate type of amplification of this audio signal must be applied in order to hear music at desired audible levels with the least amount of harmonic distortion.
Through the practice of audiophilism I am able to provide an excellent soundstage and stereo imagery within my acoustically treated listening room.

audiophilia nervosa

Audiophilia nervosa describes the anxiety resulting from the never-ending quest to obtain the ultimate performance from one's stereo system by means of employing state-of-the-art components, cables, and the use of certain "tweaks."

Although the goal is supposedly to achieve maximum appreciation of the music, those afflicted with this condition are merely obsesed with their electronics.
Todd had spent well over $100,000 in speakers, monoblock amplifiers, fiber optic cables, Shakti stones, pre-amolifiers, and other equipment and tweaks. And yet he still wasn't convinced that Diana Krall's voice sounded "silky" enough.

Todd was in deep denial concerning his audiophilia nervosa, and his wife was on the verge of calling a divorce lawyer.

Audiophiliac

The name often given to severe audio enthusiasts. Made famous by Robert Bisek for the wide spectrum of audio he could hear.
Dick was considered an audiophiliac. Jane was amazed that he could accurately discern analog from digital audio signals.

audiophiliosis

A disease of the mind resulting in one believing that the only good audio system is one that costs over US$20,000 and that stray magnetic fields in components through the audio path will distort the purity of the audio image righteously placed with loving care by holy Audio Engineers in the studio for your listening pleasure.
Man, my friend paid $175 for this stone that's supposed to clear up magnetic flux and improve sonic purity; he put it on his amplifier. Now it looks like a rock on his amp and I can't hear any difference when we listen to Megadeth. That dude has serious audiophiliosis.

audiophilistine

Person who is incapable of appreciating the superiority of expensive "high-end" audio equipment such as speakers, headphones, and audio cables (not necessarily derogatory). Compare to audiophile.
I spent $300 on these headphones, but I simply can't tell that much of a difference compared to my old $25 earbuds. I guess that makes me an audiophilistine.

More from Urban Dictionary
West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
Some grebo passed with Sabbath playing on his stereo.
The Poppies are at no. 17? God, a grebo band in the charts!
They're playing nu-metal now, bloody grebos!
