To hold someone up with a pistol or knife, after demanding they raise, or, "up" they hands. Can end in murder, robbery, extortion or hug. No in-between.
Inside joke in the hcr, punk and, through some sort of internet voodoo magic, snickering indiekid communities. A way of pointing out that something or someone is flying the punk flag a bit too high.
Can also be used to point out that a punk has gotten old and gone corporate.
Punx: "Did you see American Hardcore yet?"
Hcr: "Yeah, Keith Morris sure was upping the punx with those dreads"
Snickering indiekid: "Heh." *blogs it*
Reducing the incentive for someone to comply by offering a less-attractivereward if he consents to your wishes.
"Upping the ante" can sometimes actually be "upping the uncl" --- creating reluctance rather than willingness --- for a wise/prudent person, since he may become suspicious as to why you are trying to bribe him so generously for performing a seemingly-minor/mundane action.
12 step recovery jargon referring to someone new who talks about how great life is, now that they'resober. Usually meaning that the person is out of touch with reality.
The new guy seems pretty happy for a dude who has no job, no money and no family. He must be on a pink cloud.
