The Poet and the Ghost

Your ink is loud,
a symphony on the page.
But the air between us
is dead quiet.
You preach communication
without making a sound.
You write of forever,
then mute the world.
You promised safety
in a voice I can no longer hear.

You promised once,
that you would never hurt me in this lifetime.
But I need you to know:
the silence hurts.
Which version is true?
The vow, or the ghost?

The Poet and the Ghost

I promised and never broke one
I never hurt you, come on
Hurt and disrate
Came with a band-aid

just for you
Not caring I bled or limped
Nothing would make me stop
I saw for myself
The last time we met and

before you even said
I knew my silence hurt you

You struggled to come through
I stayed in waiting
not to control, avenge or pain you
Only to know, grow and do

what felt right to you
My poet, my ghost
The vow remains
I love you

The Poet and the Ghost

Your silence became my mirror
and I spoke to it as if it breathed
One-sided communication...
it felt like talking to a wall,
but still, I whispered love into it
hoping you’d somehow hear my heart echo back
I said I would always be here for you
and I’ve kept that promise
I’m here still
writing to you in shadows
waiting for a sign
for the warmth that only in thoughts

held my name gently
But even love grows weary,
You can be drained
disrespected, bruised
Uncountable number of times
until love feels like erosion.
Tell me, what does that teach the soul?
To forget that the other is alive
to see only the reflection,
and not the pulse beneath it.
To love a ghost
while becoming one

You tried to save me with a band-aid
while you were bleeding out alone.
You speak of your pain as if mine isn't real,
retreating inside yourself
thinking your silence was a shield.

But we are not characters in a movie, my love.
There is no glory in this distance.
Walking away 'for my own good'
doesn't make you a hero,

it just makes us both lonely.

Your silence didn't protect me;
it is the very thing that breaks me.
I don't need protection from your darkness.
I would rather walk with you while you limp
than stand here perfectly safe,
loving a memory.

So please, don't choose the ghost.
Don't choose the noble exit.
Come back.
Bring your wounds, bring your scars,
bring the silence if you must—
but STAY.
If the vow remains, make it breathe again.
I am still here...
Waiting for the man, not the ghost.

A Booger In The Nose Of Progress
