1. Feeling guilty about having survived a traumatic event e.g war, a tsunami, Black Friday sale opening... A common feature is blaming oneself for not being able to save the others involved.

2. A better way of expressing one's feelings to one's friends, family etc. about feeling good about NOT going with them on something e.g blue hair dye, eating that 3 week old lasagne...

1. Being the only ones from their group returning home from Iraq outside a box Jack and Joe suffered heavily from survivor guilt.

2. Visiting her family at the hospital's food poisoning wing Lisa said she had "survivor guilt" rather than the brains not to eat anything growing mushrooms.

Toe Rag

A toe rag was originally a foot wrapping used, since mediaeval times up until the mid-nineteenth century, to protect the foot from chafing by boots or shoes. As these were, quite literally, rags they weren’t usually washed, and so with use they became very smelly until they were thrown away. Because of the similarity in smell, toe rag also became the name applied to dried, salted cod or other things with a strong, unpleasant, fishy smell. It didn’t take that long before the name was applied to someone who was an obnoxious, unpleasant OIC.

Eternity leave

When some resigns or retires from a job, they are on "eternity leave". This can also refer to someone who has passed away, especially someone who worked somewhere for a long time, retired/resigned, then passed away later.

Oh I'm sorry, you didn't know that Kelly is on eternity leave? She resigned and moved to Hawaii!

With regrets I would like to inform you that my boss is officially on eternity leave. I will never see or hear them again. Ever.
