The Sangheili (Latin: Macto cognatus, meaning "I honor my father's blood") are a reptilian-like alien race of fierce, proud, strong, agile, intelligent warriors and skilled combat tacticians. Sangheili are named after their home planet, Sanghelios. Known to Humans as Covenant Elites. One of the main enemies in the Halo Universe (video games of which include Halo (Combat Evolved), Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3:ODST and Halo Reach.

One of the more common species seen in the Halo franchise. Originated on their home-planet of Sangheilios, the Sangheili (Elite) are one of the best enemies and allies you will ever find in the Halo games with an interesting and diverse history and culture of their own. Guardians of the 3 prophet heirarchs, and a very honorable species, the Sangheili Elites are some of the most badass motherfuckers you will ever see.

The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
