PurtchSwiping

A strategy where a company intentionally and gradually weakens, restricts, or limits an existing feature—not as an accident or cost-cutting measure, but as a deliberate path toward fully removing or locking it behind control once resistance is worn down.

PurtchSwiping conditions users to accept loss of control piece by piece, instead of honestly announcing the change and dealing with backlash upfront.

The goal is eventual elimination, while minimizing backlash along the way.
“Google started purtchswiping sideloading by adding warnings and restrictions, then tried to remove it entirely until users pushed back.”

“They didn’t kill the feature overnight — they purtchswiped it until no one noticed it was gone.”
