Post-Trap
"Post-Trap" denotes a broad spectrum of active artists who saw success following Trap Rap's initial wave of underground popularity from the early 2000s to the mid 2010s. By 2015, artists began to diversify the genre through forgoing its lyrical and sonic similarities with Gangsta Rap, choosing instead to prioritize melody, atmosphere, and experimentation. This change in direction was accompanied by a wide array of influences such as Pop Rap, Experimental Hip Hop, Post-Industrial, Cloud Rap, Alternative R&B and Synthpop.
While technically proficient lyricists are not uncommon, performances are typically simplified and often centered around a singular hook, with autotune and reverb being used to enhance the music's atmospheric and melodic qualities.
