Orthodox Sciences
The plural of orthodoscience—the set of disciplines, fields, and approaches that are considered "legitimate" and "mainstream" by the scientific establishment. Orthodox sciences are those that have achieved institutional power and cultural authority. They are the sciences that are taught, funded, and celebrated. They are the sciences of the status quo, the sciences that reproduce existing hierarchies and naturalize existing inequalities. Orthodox sciences are not necessarily wrong, but they are limited—blind to their own assumptions and resistant to challenge.
Example: "Orthodox sciences like mainstream economics, evolutionary psychology, and conventional medicine often marginalize heterodox approaches, not because they are wrong, but because they challenge the power and assumptions of the establishment."
