(JAPANESE GOVERNMENT) Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Tsūshō-sangyō-shō); responsible for development and implementation of industrial policy for Japan.

In 2001 it was superseded by the newly created Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Keizai Sangyō Shō).

Chalmers Johnson credited MITI and central planning for Japan's economic miracle.
