Lolebate
A portmanteau of “lolcow” and “debate,” referring to a formal or semi‑formal exchange that has been degraded into performative ridicule. In a lolebate, each side tries to cast the other as a lolcow for their supporters to jeer at. Facts and logic are secondary; the winning move is to make the opponent seem laughable, irrational, or pathetic. Lolebates are common on social media platforms where quote‑tweets, reaction images, and hashtag mockery replace counter‑arguments. The audience’s entertainment value often outweighs any pursuit of truth, turning public discourse into a reality show of humiliation.
Example: “The televised debate quickly turned into a lolebate: each candidate traded insults while their online fans posted laughing GIFs. No policy was discussed; only whose meme game was stronger.”
