An informal, jovial greeting, originates from "hiya". Used commonly in Liverpool where "iyer" is easier to pronounce than "hiya".

Iyer

Iyer is a surname belonging to Tamil Brahmins from the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in India. Iyers are 3% of the population of Tamil Nadu are are found in negligible numbers in other states in India.

Typical Iyer Traits - reserved and quiet, intelligent, highly educated, non-confrontational, mild-mannered, secretive, highly ethical, strict and disciplined, frugal & conservative lifestyle, hates being the center of attention, not very social, will be hesitant to help, kinda selfish and scheming. They are usually interested in reading, chess, cricket, coffee, carnatic music, dosa, sambhar, and visiting temples. Most of them work as doctors/engineers/lawyers/accountants/professors. Iyers do not have a spirit of community or brotherhood, but they are proud of Iyer heritage.

Iyers are disliked in Tamil Nadu as they have been guilty of discriminating against lower castes in the past. Dravidians (Lower caste Tamil people) regard Brahmins (Iyers & Iyengars - Upper caste Tamil people) as 'Aryans', 'outsiders', or just invaders and oppressors in general. As a result, most Iyers have moved out of Tamil Nadu and have no significant ties to their homeland.

The typical Iyer aspires to get an MS/MBA degree from the USA, become a US citizen, marry an Iyer, move his parents from India to the USA, and never go back to India ever again. He has very little patriotism or love for his motherland in his heart; partly because he is disliked in his original motherland of Tamil Nadu.

That Iyer kid from our class nailed the SATs and got accepted to Stanford for Computer Science.

Wussy Iyer Boy

An Iyer boy (most of them actually) who even if he has a PhD in some science stream will not start anything on Tuesday because he does not want to offend his parent's beliefs. In fact he never goes against his Iyer beliefs even if they are stupid and will marry the girl that his mom and dad choose for him.

Sister: This meeting was to discuss the rough draft of my essay, where we discussed the subsidiary questions I added in my rough draft. We also discussed the relationship between my main title and the real-life situations I chose to use in my essay. We discussed the structure of my essay as well, specifically the Math AOK section and how it relates to the contradiction of the title. This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
