Hit the bed

What ESL (English as a second language) students say when they mix up the expressions "hit the hay" / "hit the sack" with "go to bed".

ESL student: I want to hit the bed now.

Native English speaker: Why? Are you unhappy or something? And why the bed?

to hit the bed and clouds

to go to bed with the intent to fall asleep almost immediately and start dreaming and recycling emotional experiences.

I'm so tired now, it's time to hit the bed and clouds.

I've been through so much today, I really need to hit the bed and clouds.
