The "synonym" for the 1992 video game Mortal Kombat as its unprecedented amount of violence has once caused Mortal Kombat controversy right after its release date. This controversy eventually shaped the statement "video games cause violence" among Gen X-born person, after the statement "vaccines cause autism" had previously shaped among Baby Boomers.
When Mortal Kombat hit the shelves, the controversy surrounding its graphic violence set the stage for a national conversation on video game regulation.
