Chemdere
Chemdere (ケムデレ) Pronounced Kemudere is a Japanese slang term colloquially used when referring to a character that has a harsh rejecting personality, often going to extreme lengths to hide their intense feelings towards an individual.
In Japanese ケム "Chem" or "Kemu" means "Smoke" and デレ "Dere" means "To be lovestruck" So this can be interpreted as "To mask ones true love behind an illusion of smoke and mirrors"
To be Chemdere is to intentionally act distant to hide one's true feelings often due to embarrassment or protecting ones status or image. Characters that are Chemdere often go as far as faking interest in another person to hide the borderline obsessive feelings towards their true love.
