catalog

Dressed like your right out of a J.Crew or Banana Republic catalog. It differs slightly from 'J.Crew' or Preppy in that it's a phrase applied to a situation where the clothes are wearing the man rather than a particular lifestyle reflected in the clothes worn by the man.

For example: a medical tech who usually wears blue hospital scrubs dressed in chinos and a button-down plaid shirt; all creases were crisp (right out of the package)...or...
A a slovenly overweight college kid raised by Vermont hippies and who's never worn a tie, dresses to meet his girlfriends parents.
Man, you look catalog, did you even take the price tag off those chinos?

Catalog Engineer

Someone who reads catalogs of equipment -- high performance car parts, electronics or whatever -- and suddenly thinks he knows everything. These people are easy to spot -- they spend a great deal of money "improving" their cars, stereos or whatever. What they say sounds like hyperbolic ad copy and they won't let go of their beliefs, no matter how often someone proves them wrong.
Adam: Oh great, Ed's on a rant. He bought some gadget he found in a hot rod magazine for his car and claims it's doubled the power and his fuel economy. I looked at the thing and it's junk, just like all the other "performance parts" he bought in the last month.

Eve: That's Ed, alright. A real "Catalog Engineer."

Catalog Commando

An individual who purchases large quantities of firearms, camouflage, knives, body armor etc. that they have absolutely no practical use for.

The typical catalog commando has either very limited or no military experience. They just dress that way because they believe it makes them look tough, cool and like they know what they are doing.

Another quality of the catalog commando is that they rarely (if ever) smile when they're picture is being taken. They will stand there attempting to look intimidating with an unconvincing thousand yard stare.
Firing range safety officer - "Why are you wearing camouflage and body armor to an indoor pistol range? Wait a minute, are you that catalog commando Nutnfancy?

Nutnfancy - "Yes."

Firing range safety officer - "My god, you're even more pathetic in the flesh. NOW GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY RANGE DOUCHER!!!!!"

Catalog Memory

Memories and information are stored in the brain like files in an office. Stacks and stacks of irrelevant bullshit stored right next to stacks and stack of useful knowledge, however they are rarely confused. Unfortunately, there is no governing form of organization like alphabetical order or topical arrangement, but the thinker is still confident that after flipping through pages and pages of bullshit they will come to the idea/image/fact/etc they were looking for.
Person 1: "I love looking at leaves in the fall."
A person with Catalog Memory: Flips through the molecular process of photosynthesis, looks at the person, thinks about where their shirt was made and what language those people speak, imagines having sex with person 1 and where they would do it, thinks about photosynthesis again, then finds a memory relevant to the original comment. After about 10-20 seconds, person with catalog memory says: "My family and I used to take a road trip down the river every year. We'd stop at a bunch of parks to look at the leaves."
