Carolyn Bryant

A Carolyn Bryant is a woman who seeks attention by having people punished excessively. Punishments are framed as defensive or corrective measures. A major component of being a Carolyn Bryant is exaggeration or feigning of danger and need of protective action, followed by directives which are more exploitative or aggressive than defensive.

The term comes from the 1955 murder of 14-year-old African American boy, Emmett Till, which occured at the behest of White, married Carolyn Bryant, who accused Till of flirting with her. Carolyn later admitted to distorting parts of her story regarding Till.

CB's are histrionically addicted to being lavished with sympathy and protective indignance. A CB's goal is to watch others needlessly over-defend her. She may repeatedly reinvigorate old, resolved conflicts or scower for reasons to punish people. CB behavior is sometimes called "waving the white handkerchief" and is a form of "duping delight." Even when a kernel of truth is involved in a CB's story, she usually ommits information, skews context, embelleshes, and always requests excessive abuse.

CB behavior can be envious sabotage, or for the excitement of watching others fuss excessively over her.

A CB might pose a legitimate complaint, but as a psychopathic narcissist, she acts on nonsensical and outlandishly inappropriate address of her concerns.

CB's seize on easy targets and evoke other sociopaths, often getting away with murder.
