“But BTS” is a phrase that the K-pop community uses when one of their faves do something problematic and they want to redirect the attention to the K-pop group BTS to justify their faves actions.

BTS did some problematic things in the past but sincerely apologized and educated themselves. They are completely innocent now but the K-pop community still bring them up at their convenience.

Person A: your faves should be called out, they said the N word.

Person B: But BTS… you forget about them?

Person A: They should apologize

Person B: You stan BTS (this is another form of But BTS)

“But BTS” is a phrase that other kpop stans use when their favorite k-group or k-idol did CA. Instead of holding them accountable of what they did and ignoring the problem, they bring up BTS and talk about their past which they have apologized for + they acknowledged their problems and fixed it. They bring up BTS to make it seem as if what their idol did was a big deal, basically applying that they shouldn’t be held accountable because the “same thing” happened with a different group.

“___ did CA. And disrespected Indians.. She should be held accountable.” “But BTS did the same thing and everyone loves them. How come they should be held accountable? She didn’t mean to?”
