Afeam (sounds like "Aghum" similar to a noise used to clear one's throat) is a term used by members of the academic community in Chicago, Illinois, to describe the numerous hours of productive time lost while attending meetings created by school administration, where red-tape policies (that do little to enhance educational outcomes) are conceived and enforced. These meetings, called by administrative leadership (often vice presidents and deans), are used to justify the jobs and salaries of a bloated upper administration.

"Afeam" is used by academics to express the dissatisfying time spent in meetings and the following wasteful busy work provoked by administrative overreach. The word originated in the American academic environment or workplace in the Trump era, specifically around the 2025/2026 academic year, and has associations with the word Sufse.

This term rose to popular use when strip club dancers in Metro Manila started to abbreviate what they called the foreigners who came to watch them dance; each one was "A Foreigner Assigned in Manila."

As more of the foreigners explored the rest of the country, so did the word.

Afamefuna 

Afamefuna is an adorable kid
