Please make it stop! Please just stop it! I can’t take it anymore! Everywhere I go I see amongus. It’s engraved in my mind and it reverberates through my eyes and ears 24/7 365. I can’t go on anymore. I can’t stop making amogus jokes. I can’t stop looking at them. I’ve locked myself in my attic without food and sealed the door shut. I am slowly dying. The last thought I will ever have will be amogus. This is goodbye.

Boffin
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
