The term came in to use after the release of 2009 Malayalam movie "Pranchiyettan and the Saint", where the central character, the super rich Francis alias Pranchiyettan does anything to get attention.

This is in reference to Michelangelo's famous episode where he carvead a statue so similar to a real person he god mad when it didn't answer him, he punched it and broke part of its knee.
