FTL

FTL, or Faster-Than-Light, is a currently theoretical way of space travel which involves either distorting space around a ship or temporarily transitioning into an alternative dimension to achieve speeds faster than the speed of light. The most common type of FTL would be Star Wars' Hyperdrive, which transitions you into a different dimension as you approach the speed of light. Some others are the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine (or the Slipspace Drive) from Halo, Star Trek's Warp Drives and the Alcubierre drive which is currently proposed as the most likely method of FTL

FTL Drive

1. FTL drive is the name for a variety of concepts which allow a vehicle to move at speeds faster than light in a vacuum. It is the mother concept of hyperdrive, jump drive, warp drive and numerous other speculative inventions. Such devices have not yet been produced in real life.

2. FTL drive in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica is a device which bends space, allowing a spacecraft to instantly relocate between two points.

FTL forum

(noun)

Stands for "Faster than Light forum." A forum with so many posts being made that previous threads and posts are very quickly buried by others. Popularized on the Bioware Social Network (BSN), since Bioware's Mass Effect science fiction games frequently use and reference FTL space travel.

I need to constantly bump on this thread so it isn't immediately buried and forgotten in these FTL forums.
