The act of inviting fringe, or remotely connected people to an event such as a shower, birthday party, christening, etc. for the sole purpose of getting more gifts.

A standard format letter sent to someone from a company (in the UK originally applied to a private parking company) demanding money and threatening all sort of legal action and dire consequences if not paid. The threats usually have no legal enforceability, and the letter is a scare tactics bluff.
