insecurity indicator

a word, phrase, acronym, emoticon, or babble appended to the end of a typed line in chat in order to make the typist feel that he has decreased the severity or conviction of what he typed. often used by an insecure person who wishes to test the waters of what he is saying without appearing serious and committed to it.

Pete: "Robert's a loser, haha."
John: "What? Robert's awesome."
Pete: "Oh, I know, man!"

Pete: "I hate Robert, asdkfjadsf."
John: "Robert's a great guy."
Pete: "Oh yeah, I agree."

Pete: "Robert's gay ;x"
John: "Dude, he's definitely straight."
Pete: "I was just kidding, bro. I know he's straight."

Pete: "Why does Robert act so stupid? lol."
John: "Actually, I think he usually acts pretty intelligently."
Pete: "Oh, my tone was meant to imply that I meant the opposite of what I was saying. Irony, you know? You just didn't catch it."
John: "Right... can you stop trying to use the insecurity indicator on me? It's an obvious indicator that you're insecure."

Indietastic

Adj. describing someone who thinks they are indie but are 10 minutes late and terribly mistaken. 21st century version of the hipster.

One who wears really colorful clothing, thinks they can pull off ironic patterns, often flannel and plastic earrings, and are desperately sporting a revamped mullet.

Anyone who can be heard saying, "wow that is SO mainstream."

Someone who thinks their music is cooler than everyone elses and tries to prove it at any opportunity.

The opposite of indie or independent, who are people that are different than the general public but keep that to themselves.

Easy to spot because they will be the ones claiming that they only hang out with indie people because they are totes indie.

Sufjan Stevens, Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, The Killers, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Modest Mouse, etc.

Steve is so indietastic he just recommended I see Garden State and download soundtrack.

Lauren: omggg you guys, robots and dinosaurs and Death Cab for Cutie are totes kewl right now!
Ron: STFU, you are so effing indietastic.

The other day my dad was like, "have you heard of The Shins?" and I was like, "Wow Dad you are really indietastic."

A strain of marijuana. The cannabis plant will be smaller and stoutier. The high you get from an indica strain is more or a couch-lock high.

Opposite of satvia, which is a more laughy, active high.

Tone Indicators

A very useful thing. Some people might find it cringe, but tone indicators are seriously useful for anyone who finds it hard to understand the true meaning or implications in someone's texts, especially someone you don't know well. I would go so far as to say it's an evolution in our way of communicating online. They should really be used more often by people who naturally text in a cold and dry manner.

Scenario 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 tone indicators involved:

Person 1: Hey wanna play minecraft together?
Person 2: ok
Person 1: ??
Person 2: what
Person 1: Is that like a genuine ok or a sarcastic one or...
Person 2: I just meant ok
Person 1: Ohh, gotcha. Sorry my brain kinda interpreted it like you thought I was bothering you😅

Scenario 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 tone indicators involved:

Person 1: Hey wanna play minecraft together?
Person 2: ok /gen
Person 1:👍

See how much less problematic the 2nd scenario was?
