Staten Island

The forgotten Borough where you've gotten into arguments with people who think Long Island is the fifth borough. You refer to Manhattan as 'the city'. You call the ferry "the boat". You can name all four bridges. Denino's Pizza and Ralph's Ices are the best summertime treats ---and you will wait on line for 45 minutes just for a vanilla chip ice! You've gone sledding at Latourette. There is only one mall... and it's called 'the mall.' It takes you a half hour to get to your friend's house... and they live less than a mile away. You know it's Prince's Bay, not Princess Bay. You would never swim in the water here. At least one of your relatives is fluent in Italian.
You or someone you know has more than one matching velour sweat suits in their closet. You can smell the dump from your house but you're so used to the smell that you don't notice it anymore. You've gotten into a screaming match over a parking spot. Someone you know has a lifetime membership to Tanning Loft. Everyone you know claims to be 'connected.' You've hung out in a parking lot. You know the difference between Richmond Rd., Richmond Ave., and Richmond Terrace. You know that 'Mike' owns all the good diners. You refer to every highway on the island as 'The Expressway.' You've been cut off by a souped up Honda Accord with earth shaking bass playing. You have chased someone for cutting you off just to give them the finger. A development of townhouses has recently sprung up in your neighborhood. The shocks in your car are shot because you hit pot holes every 2 feet. You have the need to look at the people in the car next to you when stopped at a red light to see if it someone you know. You know never to walk on South Beaches sand with out Shoes. You've seen Method Man in the Mall at least once. The Monastery and Sea View aren't scary, just another place to drink. Everyone own a North Face jacket and has a Nextel. You wave at the weird leg guy when you pass the North Shore, and sometimes he waves back.
Staten Island: Everyone own a North Face jacket and has a Nextel.

Long Island

First of all, Long Island is not a penninsula. It is an island. Hence the name Long ISLAND. Secondly, I live on Long Island, in a prodominantly white suburb in Nassau to be specific and I have never heard anyone say that they live in "the city" if they live here. When most of us act "ghetto" we are basicaly mocking you all. We aren't "upstate". We're Long Island. It's a totally differnt portion of New York. Not all of us are rich snobs. Of course there are the select few who are, but around here, that's a minority. I'm middle class along with most of my town. However, two towns over is ridiculously wealthy and one town north is a bit, shall we say, poor. Being from upstate is not a bad thing. It's just got a different feel to it than from being on Long Island. Just like Long Island is significantly different from the city. And honestly, everyone that insults us Long Islanders is not necessarily jealous or wrong. We tend to be arrogant sons of bitches that think we're better than everyone else. But you all aren't completely right either. I've noticed that not many of you who have posted on here have looked at all the sides and are mostly ignorant assholes. But that's okay. If it works for you..have fun. Just don't expect to get anywhere in life. Oh and another thing. The whole "Yo, motherfuckaas from Long Island couln't last 2 days in Brooklyn!". Okay, we probably couldn't. But then again, I don't know why you're so proud that you can. Personally, I would not be bragging about how I live in a poor neighborhood with a high crime rate....

Altogether, I love Long Island and I'm really proud to live here. I plan on moving out of NY for college but hopefully I'll have enough money to come back here to raise a family. It's really for the most part a great place. Most people are nice and friendly. I love being from the South Shore and I <3 my Long Island accent. (I've been told on numerous occasions that my accent is exactly what is expected of LI people.) Oh but beware, there are 500,000,000 7-11's and McDonald's. And Sunrise Highway in Wantagh, Seaford, Massapeaqua, is covered in car dealerships.

And I hope you all will just stop insulting eachother and repeating the same pathetic opinions. If you're going to post something, make it something new and somewhat intelligent. Thanks. =]
You Know You're From Long Island When...
No word ends in an ER, just an AH.
Oh, your parents are from Brooklyn? So are mine!

Herpes Island

Herpes Island is a magical place of modern folklore where smiling happy beautiful people ride bicycles and make love on the beach all day. It has been said that the only requirement to join this exclusive community is that you have herpes. Valtrex seems to have rare footage of this mythical locale.
"Wow. That looks like paradise. Do you know where that is?"

"That's Herpes Island, dog..."

"Can I go there?"

"Ya, but only if you have herpes."

"Sweet, I'm there."
