the awkward social interaction in which Notre Dame students are forced to choose between a serious, exclusive relationship or just casually skanking around (generally while hopped up on Keystone and Popov's).

Student 2: I can't really remember, but one morning I woke up stuck to a condom wrapper in my math TA's loft. Thanks to that Notre Date I have a boyfriend now.

dorm date

When two college students (typically freshman) share a romantic evening within the confines of one of their 10 by 15 foot cells they call a dorm room. Dorm dates usually include at least a few of the following: drinking wine or cheap alcohol from plastic cups, bed-sitting, awkward conversation, an angry roommate who is exiled from his/her room not b/c of sex but for the possibility of sex, and friends gossiping how the dorm date is going.

Diana: Why are you cleaning the room and what are those scented candles for?

Jamie: Do you remember Chris from the frat party last weekend? Well he's coming over for a dorm date tonight so I'm gonna need you to leave for the next three-to-five hours.

John-date

An undefined, somewhat exclusive relationship between two people. Neither party gives the other party a title of "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" within the relationship. However, only the one person is dating with full intentions on ending the undefined relationship within six to seven months of dating to avoid serious commitment, the i-love-you phase or being tied down to an area because of a relationship.

Man #1: What happened to that chick you were seeing?

Man #2: Oh, that was nothing serious. I just John-dated her.

It’s mainly used after the person who asked tells them what they’re doing.

first date syndrome

A condition which involves the ability to have a great first date, but never experience a second for some reason. The first dates often come in a string together. Can be caused by bad breakups, commitment issues, or bad end-of-date kissing skills. Not to be confused with playing the field, which implies not having a second date by choice.

"Are you going to see him again?"
"Are you kidding? I have first date syndrome. I'll be out with someone else next week."
