Derived from the song “Sing About Me, Im Dying of Thirst” from Kendrick Lamar’
s album good
kid, m.A.A.d city. The song “Sing About me, Im Dying of Thirst” is two different songs on the same titled track, but holds two different stories. The first part in the song “Sing about me” Kendrick tells the story of losing his
family over gang violence in Compton, California ( his
brother) and trying to keep his brothers name alive by simply “singing about him”. The second part witch was followed by a interlude of dialogue we’re
friends of Kendrick were seeking vengeance for what they did to his
family hence “dying of thirst”. At the end of the song there is more dialogue where young
men come into contact with an elderly woman ( more or less on the religious side). The elderly woman sees what’s going on and the anger in the atmosphere, and sees that the young
men are carrying weaponry seeking to set out vengeance on the
people that took their brother, the woman goes on to say that she’s understands what they’re feeling and that they should rethink their decisions and the unfortunate outcome and possibly being placed in a never ending system. The elderly woman say “ your dying of thirst” and then leads them in a prayer hoping that they
will continue in the right direction the good lord intended even though they are hurting.
