Akarsh Shroff

With his Bangalore-based social venture YuvaSpark, Shroff set out to improve baseline literacy and numeracy to ensure kids from low-income backgrounds in India are not excluded from opportunities. YuvaSpark assesses metrics about student success, from retention rates to test scores, and then creates custom academic programs for teachers that they can access on a cloud platform. The program has been used by government schools and orphanages, providing learning tools in five languages.

Couch Awareness

Simply being conscious of your current status of sleeping on a couch.

Jimmy flew in from college and was staying at his parent's house. The fact that he folded his blankets and put on a pot of coffee in the morning showed great "couch awareness" on his part.

Jenny kicked Tom out of bed and his couch awareness made it hard for him to get some sleep.

and

Johnny passed out again while playing Halo, but thanks to his keen "couch awareness" he was able to get up and perform an EMRT (early morning rack transfer).

I was a very shy and meek kid in high school, but when I reached my 20's, I came out of my shell and became very outgoing. My friends told me that I get the sleeper award for how social I've become.

Term originated in Loma Rica, Ca
