fauxbook

The act of using Facebook under the guise of a false identity.

The purpose of the identity is to join networks otherwise unavailable to the perpetrator to glean information off of carefully chosen targets. The person may then send a friend request to his/her target in an attempt to fool the person into believing the person is somewhat trustworthy as the friend request comes from a network to which the target belongs.

A parent might sign up for Facebook as a member of his/her son or daughter's High school, with the intent of some of all of the following:
- to send her child's friends "friend requests" to watch their behavior or subtly coax them to talk about her child
- to watch her child's Facebook announcements and wall posts
- to monitor her child's comments on other's facebook pages
- to see pictures and other information
Son in HS: "Who is 'Tara Jordan'? I've never heard of her at school before..
*clicks to accept friend request oblivious to the fauxbook request coming from his mother*
...
Mother of child, posing as fictitious Tara Jordan: "Now I will scour my son's page and his friends' pages to see what he's doing whilst not under my supervision."

"I was fauxbooked by my mom and she saw all the college photos of me drinking instead of going to class."

"My fauxbook tricks every girl in the sorority to accept my friend request so I can see all of their information."

fauxtograph

In today's world of computer manipulated images, it's sometimes hard to tell reality from fake. A photograph that has been digitally altered so that it no longer reflects reality is a fauxtograph. Faux is French for "fake" or "false". Can be shortened to fauxto (pronounced foe-toe)
"Did you see that fauxtograph that's floating around the internet of a man with a duck's head?"

Fauxtoshoot

A photoshoot with an amateur model, most commonly an adult gay male, not intended for publication anywhere other than personal websites (facebook, connexion, etc). The fauxtoshoot is a way to live out an adolescent fantasy of getting "Glamour Shots" at the mall.
I unfriended him because he clogs up my news feed with the addition of random strangers and uploads from his most recent fauxtoshoot.

Fauxnomenon

A fake (faux) phenomenon, usually picked up on by the news-media, using bogus or highly unusual anecdotes to construct a false 'trend'.

Media outlets from the New York Times to Fox News absolutely love these, because they fill column space and news time, anyone can comment on them / write them and appear informed without actual research or investigative work, and they make for 'sexy' stories.

Common features of fauxnomenon stories include: Teens, sex, drugs, teens and sex, teens and drugs, teens and sex and drugs.

These types of fauxnomenon stories are often called 'moral panic' stories.
Mom: "Hey there honey, you haven't been going to Rainbow Parties, have you? It's where girls all get different colors of lipstick, and then they blow every boy at the party until their penises look like rainbows! I know kids are doing it these days because I saw it on Fox and CNN and Oprah, and I'm worried. They wouldn't put it on TV if it weren't true."

Daughter: "Mom, that's just a fauxnomenon! It's designed to play on your fear of teen sex and drum up ratings."

Mom: "Really?"

Daughter: "Yeah. That jenkem thing is totally legit, though."

Fauxsome

Regarding one's own behavior or oneself as "awesome" when in fact the behavior is misguided, or embarrassing, or one is really living a thinly-veiled life of mediocrity and fear.
The hipster was convinced that he was completely awesome, but those around him knew he was fauxsome, with no real ideas or action to back him up.

fauxtivational speaker

1. A person who writes, posts, or otherwise speaks stupid cliches in order to assist someone with their personal short comings.
2. Someone who is as fake as they come, who tries to evoke motivation.
Bob: Hey my girl just broke up with me.

Mr Helpful: Don't worry bro there are plenty of fish in the sea. If you love someone set them free, if they come back they're yours to keep. You cant count all your eggs before they hatch. It will happen when you least expect it.

Bob: Thanks but I don't need another fauxtivational speaker man.
