argue the toss

An idiom meaning to stubbornly quibble over something inconsequential, irrelevant, minor or off-topic. A cavilling dispute.

Another way of saying "to argue for the sake of it".

Unfortunately the meeting didn't go well. Eric starting getting pedantic, and decided to argue the toss over a trivial detail of the plan.

St. Augustine Apple Toss

When drunk as fuck at a local hotel pool, one is tired of the apple he has halfway eaten. He then decides to toss the half eaten apple in the pool.

After tossing the apple, the apple culprit walks through a puddle of piss on his way to the bathroom.

The next morning at breakfast, the apple is still floating in the same spot as the night before.

Maxwell: Yo man, after your done with that apple I want a bite.

John: Aight man... SPLASH!!! Oops, I just did the St. Augustine apple toss.

Maxwell: What the fuck did you do that for man? I wanted some of that apple.

puppy toss

One of the most atrocious and affecting YouTube videos that shows the brutality of war and what it does to our soldiers. The completely crazy situation in Iraq during the war makes sadists out of our own American soldiers, as evidenced by this video in which a U.S. soldiers delightfully holds a puppy by the scruff of the neck and proceeds to throw it with all his strength. Even a fellow soldier comments that the action was mean-spirited, but the guilty soldier says it's not.

The "puppy toss" is the must publicized example on YouTube, but there are other videos in which U.S. soldiers shoot dogs just for fun after having already killed the dogs' owners. True, the owners may have been terrorists, but the dogs have done nothing to deserve death.
