feminism

an ideology that focuses on woman being treated as equals to men. There is no sexism in this concept- because we live in a patriarchal society, males are automatically given a superior position. calling feminism sexist is also ignoring centuries of history where men have oppressed women.

a common misconception about feminism is that one is supporting woman's equality but opposing man's. This is not true. Supporting something like gay rights doesn't mean you're against a straight person's rights, and the same goes for feminism in terms of equality between the sexes.
woman:
I refused to receive a higher pay check than my male co-worker for doing the same amount of work because i support feminism.

man:
I refused to receive a higher pay check than my female co-worker for doing the same amount of work because i support feminism.

feminism

The belief that females should, at the time of belief, be given more power than they currently have. This is regardless of the current male state of power, whether it be at its lowest or highest. Also, both men and women can be feminists.

Note: Feminism is NOT the belief that women and men should be equal, that is known as egalitarianism.
John: Why is Mary a feminist?
Max: she thinks women are better than men.
John: Isn't that sexism?
Max: By her logic, only men can be sexist.
John: so feminism is hating men?
Max: not usually, at least as long as women really are opressed.

feminism

A left-wing movement in Western culture originating in the 1960's that seeks socio-economic equality between men and women.

Proponents of the movements cite years of hardship by women when they could not access the same basic privileges as men (e.g. such as the right to vote). They argue that even though throughout history most human societies have been patriarchal, rapid advances in the past hundred years have made it necessary to rethink the status of women in relation to men. They cite that the extremes of living in a patriarchal society such as domestic violence, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and discrimination against women as their primary reasons for supporting feminism.

Opponents of the movement argue that feminism has gone too far and has accomplished most of its original goals. They argue that if it proceeds any further, there is a real danger that feminism will go on to elevate the status of women and result in a generation of emasculated men. They add that feminism has hurt gender roles and made the typical family structure unstable and caused an increase in divorces, breakups, abortions, etc.. With a surplus of women working, they argue that this has resulted in them them being away from their spouse and children and them spending less time at home.
The symbolic poster of feminism reads:

We Can Do It! *showing off bulging bicep*

feminism

The advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
Being a feminist doesn’t mean that you are saying that women’s rights are better then men’s rights you are saying that you want both men and women to be equal.
When women stand up for gender equality, or feminism they are sometimes accused of hating men.

Which is incorrect though some people do believe that, that’s not what the word feminism means it means the equality of the sexes.
