HEMI

Legendary Chrysler V8, characterized by hemispherical combustion chambers. Chrysler Hemi's date back to 1951; however, most are more familar with the 426 Hemi that originated in 1964. The current 'Hemi' used in Chrysler's is not a true Hemi. Thanks alot, Germany.
A special race-prepped 426 Hemi powered the '68 MoPar/Hurst Super Stock Darts and Barracudas. Rated at 425bhp (although more likely over 650), this complete with acid dipped doors, fiberglass hood & fenders, and numerous other weight-reduction techniques got these cars from 0 to 60 in about 3.5 seconds, and boosted them to top speeds of just over 140mph. Needless to say, to this day they dominate the NHRA Super Stock classes.

North american bred engine fueled by pure adrenaline. It likes to prey on the weak, the slow and the quiet such as F150s, Nissan Titans and Chevy Silverados. With a satanic grunt it's easily the most famous engine in the USA.

The HEMI was the shape of the combustion chambers of some of the most powerful and successful Chrysler engines in the '70s, the most notable one being the 426. The shape was in use long before Chrysler came up with it; the earliest HEMIs can be found in engines built in the '20s.

Now, the HEMI is proof that brand name affinity sells cars, and that nothing in the automotive industry is sacred. The current design is a ripoff of a Porsche design. If you want to visualise what the current HEMI head looks like, take a pear, cut it in half lengthwise, and lie it down. The big circular section is where the intake valve is, and the small one is where the exhaust valve is. The TWO spark plugs reside at the "waist" of this pear-shape, one on each side. Note that there isn't two plugs for added performance, but rather because one plug off to the side couldn't hope to burn all of that fuel.
I park my Dodge Ram with the HEMI right next to my new Olds 4-4-2 minivan and Ford Escort Boss 429.

Damn, I wish someone told me that this HEMI crate engine weighed 5000lb and is only suitable for drag racing.

Hemi

Old Mopar engines used in Dodge/Chrysler cars such as Chargers, Super Bee's, Road Runners, Challengers, and other muscle cars. The name was derived for Hemispherical cylinder heads using a SOHC design. The new "Hemi's" are not actually Hemi's, but just a copyrighted name used to sell cars. New Hemi engines are simply a waste of fuel, space, and money. Dodge achives it's power these day by low-tech cheap in-efficient engines. With Chevy you get about the same performance with about double the MPG. Dodge talks about their new Viper-powered V-10 Ram, which is the fastest stock pickup in the world. Well last time I checked, people don't by pickups to go fast, they buy them for hauling shit.

Dodge Sucks.
I am quite positive if Chevy or Ford wanted to make the fastest stock truck in the world, they could, without using a super-car engine.
