I'm not talking about the supermarket brand labels but instead the every day, more common one. It's given to kids based on their appearance, music they listen to and how they talk. The most common labels today are: prep, gothic, punk, emo, jock, etc. Now in days, kids are label themselves because it makes them feel "cool." You find it a lot in AIM screenames like EmoKid, PunkBaby, PreppySlut.

Dude, I'd label you as a prep for sure!

Label

The necessary part of life as a teenager in school or anywhere really...if you don't label yourself to fit in with a particular group of people, then no one really gives 2 hoots about you. After high school, you then realize what you have done with yourself. Often, those who label themselves deny the fact that they are trying to represent a certain image. It is common that music determines who you are.

It is also the paper/plastic wrap on a bottle, or any other product.

Scene kid: Uh...I dunno

What do you consider yourself, your style?

Scene kid: I don't label myself

Labels are for soup cans

And for music, movies, comic books/graphic novels, weapons, etc. Seriously, this phrase is bullshit. We need labels, it is part of the marketing industry. Every piece of clothing you own, every cd, or everything you own (in general) is made by somebody. It was made to sell to you. The labels are there to make it easier to sell stuff. For example, you wouldn't sell a video game to an amish person would you? no, that is not their intended audience. Their intended audience are "gamers." Gamers is a label. You wouldn't sell a heavy metal cd to a gangsta would you? no, you would sell it to a metalhead or somebody that listens to metal.

The phrase "Labels are for soup cans" is bullshit.

The act of judging people by the labels of their clothes.

Here are a few examples of labelism:
1(in Abercrombie): I'm so classy.
2 (in Hollister): Me, too.
3 (in American Eagle): Don't forget me.
1: We all rock!
4 (in Aeropostale): Hey, I'm classy, too!
1: You wish, you wannabe!
2: Yeah, Loser!
5 (in Wal-Mart clothes): I'm pretty classy myself.
1: Eeeeeeeeew! Get away! You're poor!
2,3, and 4: Gross! White Trash! Nasty!
5: Whatever, you label whores!
