Ping pong ball season

Late fall, winter and early spring in the upper Midwest. The name derives from the off-white sky, horizon and ground that makes delineating the three virtually impossible. One feels that they are trapped inside of a table tennis ball.
"I can't stand this weather. Everything is coated with the same awful color."

"That's what you get this time of year in Cleveland. What did you expect? It's ping pong ball season."

Ping Cuisine

Food cooked in a micro-wave oven, but sold for profit in, for example, a pub. Particularly applicable where the menu puffs the food - 'scrumptious' 'lip-smacking', etc. Contrasts with 'home-made', which at least implies that the food was cooked from basic ingredients.
'The food at this pub is ping cuisine, and over-priced to boot,' said Bish, memorably.

"Packet Inter-Networking Groper." PING Can be used as a command in MS-DOS. Early computer programmers used this acronym because of it's similarities to a SONAR ping. A computer ping will send a packet of data from one computer to another to measure the time it takes for information to be sent and received. Pinging a computer can also help diagnose problems within networked computer systems.
