Dank irony

This is a subset of Ironic Memes on Instagram. It is characterized by the use of old meme culture (impact font text, dead memes, etc.) in an ironic fashion.

The memes are often absurd, random and purposefully unfunny. All these factors combined make the meme funny for certain people. One of the pioneers of this type of humor is Tony Zaret. He uses purposefully cringy, unfunny and nonsensical memes to make skit videos and has a big following. The inventor of this phrase is an ironic instagram account (now inactive) called @dankirony_funny. He was regarded as one of the best "dank irony" accounts of the 2018-2019 irony era.

Hood Irony

Pumping Irony

Going to the gym and doing an exercise at a higher weight than you'd planned simply because it was already on the bar and you're too lazy to change the plates.

The last guy left his plates on the bar after he finished. It's only 10 more pounds than I was going to do and I really don't feel like changing the plates. Fuck it, guess I'm pumping irony today.
