Wannabe indie

Someone who strives to be a indie/hipster but in reality they don't know anything about the genre or way of life. They claim to know indie music when in reality their main source of indie are websites that feed them what they claim to be the "best indie around". They are constantly harassing their real indie/hipster friends for music seeing as their findings are inadequate. They also claim to dressing indie and try talking about indie to others when they have no actual knowledge about the genre except what they've stolen from a real indie/hipster.

1. wannabe indie/hipster: hey what band is that?

hipster: Thats _______.

(2 days later)

wannabe indie/hipster: Hey! I downloaded all of their albums!

Hipster: Wow, You're such a wannabe.

Indie Butt

a contradiction of the butt, it is simultaneously large and nonexistent; while the butt is large (and often in charge) it is seemingly also flat, and is rarely, if ever, described as "bootylicious" although this may be an illusion of the silm leg jeans indie girls tend to wear.

A girl need not be fat to have an indie butt, in fact it is often the only aspect of the girl with any meat to it.

Indie

A misnomer for a particular style of music. It formerly was used to correctly classify music that was "underground" and not supported by major music labels. Popular thought in recent years has been that it is itself a style of music, usually 80's throwback, alternitive-style music.

Any band in any style of music can be indie by virtue of not being signed.The style is not important; it is independence from major labels that makes a band independent, or "indie". This idea has been lost due to the popularity of the term indie as it is used today.

The reason it became so popular is because to like indie music, in its correct sense, was respectable because you're bypassing the corporate music machine and finding music that you like on your own. As more and more hipster-type kids wanted to appear as deep as possible, they would answer the question "What kind of music do you like?" with "Indie." As time went on, this answer became so popular that the music that many of them listened to started to be referred to as indie. After a while of this, bands that are on major labels started to be absorbed into this pseudo-genre, rendering it an oxymoron.

Since the loosely associated music that is referred to as indie cannot properly be grouped and classified, a more appropriate label for what is erroneously referred to as indie would be "scene." The scene kids are often more concerned with being opinionated and elitist about their music choice than they are about the music itself. Scene fashion trends include tight pants, square-rimmed glasses, tight vintage-looking t-shirts, newsboy caps, military-style caps, and tattoos of stars, guns or bullets, and especially birds. Making the "scene" (i.e. a concert),being popular, and being narcissistic are the main motivations of scene kids. They often do their best to display that they possess these qualities on social networking sites like MySpace.

Frank: Oh yeah? What kind of music are they?
Jim: Indie.
Frank: OK, so they're not signed... I mean what genre are they?
Jim: Dude, I told you. Indie.
Frank: You're such a tool.

Billy: Oasis is like, the coolest indie band ever.
Mark: Man, you are totally clueless.
Billy: Please. Music is my life. I would die without music. My taste is superb. How dare you criticize me?
Mark: Wow. You're hopeless. I'm leaving.
Billy: Good. I have to blog about how awesome the concert I went to last night was and post the 30 pictures I took of myself there on MySpace.

indie kid

Okay, well, indie kids. first off, let me tell you how different the are from emo and scene kids. like, 20295823 miles off. emo kids are crying dark kids that didnt turn into indie kids after the early 2000's. (most indie kids were originally the 1990s emo kids, but thats a completely different definition than the new wave emo kids)
scene kids are rainbow wearing, makeup smearing kids who stick it to people unlike them, or slightly like them.
okay, so indie kids. i guess ill define them descriptivly if you want:
music:
of course, they listen to indie music, consisting of bands such as of montreal, owen pallett, casiotone for the painfully alone, and more bands that you've probably never heard of. more popular bands they listen to are the shins, the decemberists, bloc party, and of course, the beatles, david bowie, and talking heads.
personalities:
a mistake people generally make is comparing the personality lineaments of emo kids to indie kids. emo kids are depressed and want to cut themselves. indie kids are quite the opposite. yes, they are only human, so of course they get sad sometimes, but indie kids usually have an upbeat look at life. their music is usually happy, so that most likely has an effect on their moods.
indie kids mostly consist of liberals, and i have never ever seen a republican indie kid. they dont only hang out with indie kids though, but it is a nice plus to them to have friends that appreciate their music, and dont listen to 50 cent.
most indie kids enjoy books (most likely classics). also have a random obsession with some country such as the UK, France, New Zealand, Japan, etc.
appearance:
boys- highly fashionable, but not pretentious about it. they just like looking good. they are usually wearing either some creative outfit like red jeans and a dress shirt, or just jeans, skater shoes, an awesome graphic tee, and a jacket. hair looks like it hasnt been brushed in two days (not more than that though, they dont want to look gross). most likely no make up. if anything, a touch of eyeliner, but its not looked highly upon
girls- very pretty girls. either wavy hair or stick straight. bangs or side bangs are a must. hair can be randomly crimped too. it looks really cool. boots are worn, but rarely to school. flats and converse are for school. jeans are worn, usually straight leg, not skinny jeans. pretty shirts and jackets are worn, along with a little bit of jewelry. oh and headbands. dont ever forget headbands. makeup is not overdone.

basically, indie kids are misunderstood. they hate it when they are called emo or scene. they love discussing music, and love even more laughing at kids who listen to horrible music. they are usually very smart, and extremely witty. do not take it as arrogance. it is simply them expressing themselves

girl: omg i love scary kids scaring kids! dont you?
indie kid: hmmm not really
girl: why?? i thought you would have LOVED SKSK
indie kid: no not really. um, im going to go read something, then go ride in my car with my buds while we blast some arcade fire. bye see you later
