Humphried

The act of powerful interests withholding news or developments that would help out a certain candidate before an election, even if it is objectively good and would serve the public interest. Named after Hubert H. Humphrey who was the victim of this tactic right before the 1968 election when peace talks between the US and Vietnam had made progress and Humphrey began to surge in the polls. These talks were broken up by the Nixon campaign, fearing that a successful negotiation between the US and the Vietnamese would cost him the election. Nixon would win the election and the Vietnam war would rage for a few more years, seeing thousands of more Americans fall in combat and return home with severe disabilities caused by the combat, all because of one man’s ambitions.

Donald Trump got Humphried by Big Pharma. They did not come out with the news that the development of a COVID Vaccine was almost complete until after the election was over. This news would have certainly helped Donald Trump and maybe convinced 45,000 voters in 3 states to vote for him and get him re-elected. Instead, Joe Biden has won the election, ushering in an administration that will perhaps be more favorable to Big Pharma.

Humphried

The act of purposefully withholding information or disrupting developments that may help a candidate before an election. Named after Hubert H. Humphrey, the Democrat in the 1968 election who was unfairly the victim of the act that he is the namesake of. Richard Nixon’s campaign would break up peace talks between the Vietnamese and the US government fearing that successful peace talks would cost him the election. The result of this act of selfishness was clear, America would continue to be in a war the people wanted out of, hundreds of thousands of men would be shipped off to a war against their will, and thousands of them would die in a jungle, on the other side of the world from where they would’ve been had one man not done this act.

Donald Trump got Humphried by Big Pharma this election. They withheld the news that a COVID vaccine was about to be completed until after the election, denying Trump of a positive development that would’ve likely convinced 45,000 voters in 3 states to vote for the President and re-elect him. Instead Joe Biden won the election, bringing in a change in leadership in the waning days of this pandemic, adding to the uncertainty and instability that already consumes the country, all for their interest of getting rid of an administration that was unfriendly to their powerful interests.
