a person that does not seek nor understand the full depth of something and bases most, if not, all of their judgments, opinions, and beliefs on shallow, surface level observation and/or interpretation.

level-headed person: the artist using a vocoder to do a guitar solo with his voice was very meaningful since it symbolized the audience's inability to truly understand his emotions despite his effort to express them.

surface level person: nah dude that shit was whack. it lasted 9 minutes and i couldn't understand the ending! plus i've seen the sneakers he sells and they are ugly!

level-headed person: it's not meant to be understood as verbal language, but as audible emotion. and what do the sneakers have to do with the song? can you at least be a bit specific about what you didn't like?

surface level person: the song is just trash!

surface indie

Refers to indie bands or artists that are only obscure in that they have no Top 40 plays or chart hits, but are otherwise at least moderately well-known among music fans. The name comes from the fact that these bands are among the first that people discover when they are getting into indie music, as they are just scratching the surface. Surface indie bands often penetrate the mainstream consciousness from time to time, usually by appearing on TV show or movie soundtracks, or by signing to a major label. Examples include Sufjan Stevens, Belle and Sebastian, and The Decemberists. Smug hipsters will often deride surface indie bands by saying the quality of the music suffers as a result of their increasing popularity (and are especially prone to claiming those bands have sold out), but this is just pointless douchebaggery.

Don't listen to that hipster douchebag who says it gets so much better than Of Montreal. If you enjoy surface indie, then listen to it.

scarface

Brilliant film that is one of Al Pacino's finest moments. Scarface tells the story of ruthless, foul-mouthed Cuban exile Tony Montana (Pacino). Arriving in Miami alongside thousands of Cuban immigrants during the 1980 Mariel Harbour boatlift, Montana rapidly begins to climb the ranks of the local cocaine cartel. After a long cycle of blood, profanity, spitting, and extreme violence, Tony makes it all the way to the top, but his drug-addled paranoia (a result of 'getting high on his own supply') proves to be his downfall.

See it if you already haven't. An absolute classic.
