I don't really have the answers and I have to respond on the knowledge I have obtained so far, but the problem is that it gets printed, and something else has come along that's made you completely disagree with what you said".
It could also be a refer to Orwell's '1984' in which citizens are erased and lies control society.

After Fred drifted away from all his friends in college, his mom was hit by a car and rendered comatose. He spends most of his waking life talking to her and taking care of her. It is not clear whether she is braindead or not. When he found himself stuck in this situation, he had an eraserhead moment.
