1. Literal: The act of tossing small bits of bait into the water to lure in bigger fish.

2. Social: When someone posts or shares something that looks innocent, like a home-cooked meal or a casual night out, with the real goal of getting attention, compliments, or messages from friends, family, or exes.

Don’t fall for it. She’s not just making pasta, she’s chumming for texts.

Grandpa just posted ten photos of his homemade gumbo. He’s chumming for the grandkids to visit.

Facebook Chumming

The practice of luring friends (Facebook Sharks), by throwing "chum" into the water. Chum usually consists of political or religious comments... far too tempting for a Shark to ignore. The water in this case would be status updates and walls.
