anti-vote

The act of voting for a candidate because you hate their opponent more. When a voter decides which of the two candidates he hates more and then votes for his opponent. Usually happens in situations where both candidates suck. Often results in feelings of regret, shame, and self-loathing.

I anti-voted when I voted for John Kerry not because I liked him, but because I hated George W. Bush more.

A term used in the 2008 American Presidential election for former Hillary supporters who voted for McCain/Palin tandem on November 4, based on the fact that Palin is a woman.

Hillarite: "Onooz, Hillary lost the primaries. But there's this chick from Alaska. She is against everything I stand for, but I will vote for her anyways. She is a woman after all."

Informed voter: "So you are voting with your vagina? Vagina vote is unfeminist!"

sympathy vote

gaining support by appealing to people's love of a sob story. This could include running for public office after a recent personal or family tragedy, or turning up to an X-Factor audition in a wheelchair, hoping that doing so will gloss over any discernible lack of talent.

Dave: "Here Bob, this man on the X-Factor lost all his family in a plane crash and had is legs amputated after a tragic gardening accident."

Bob: "He may be crap, but he will win on the sympathy vote."
