cat ice

A thin (half inch or less) sheet of ice from which the liquid water underneath has receded or drained off, leaving it supported only at its edges. So named because it might support the weight of a light-footed cat, but no more. Typically found on urban sidewalks or gutters where the surface is uneven and sunlight is hit-and-miss. Occasionally found on natural bodies of water.

Joe: This sidewalk is covered in ice. Maybe we should go around it so we don't slip and fall.

Mike: Nah, look closer, it's cat ice. It'll break into tiny pieces as soon as we step on it and we won't slip.

An event occuring when you bring all the cats into the bedroom and place them on the bed. This can be performed one cat at a time or en masse. Upon completion of said task, the challenge is to say: "Hey, it's a cat party!" before the kitties flee from the room.

cat waxing

verb: an industry term for procrastination by writers, with heavy connotation of trying to justify the activity as something that "had" to be done. Usually activities that can arguably be considered productive, such as household chores or (highly tangential) background research. The term mocks the behavior of scraping the bottom of the bucket for excuses of diminishing quality.

I've mowed the lawn, washed the windows, weeded the garden, scrubbed the toilets, and worked out all my menus for the next three months. I guess it's time to... wait! I think the cat needs to be waxed! Yes! Cat waxing!

Cat Power

Cat Power is the name that Chan (pronounced "Shawn") Marshall is better known by. She makes BEAUTIFUL beautiful beautiful music, and her songs (ie: "Maybe Not") can make you cry, which not many songs can. Her fans are proud of her for not being a fake-y sell-out, and doing what she does best: making music.

I wish someone would give me tickets to a Cat Power concert....please???
