Pretentious isnt much different than superficial, though it's more of a mindset than a personality. It's a mindset that isnt based in authenticity or reality.

In life, if you make a few true friends, you have what some people pretend to have, and what many never get. Why would you need more than that? Why would you already like/love/trust somebody you never met, a stranger. Anybody who says they like/love/trust a stranger is pretending to like/love/trust a stranger.
Only a pretentious person would say they liked/loved/trusted someone they never met before/didn't know well. Someone who wanted everyone to assume they owed it to other people to like/love/trust everyone, including them.

The pretentious girl wanted to perpetuate an inauthentic tough image of someone that every now and then needed someone to hit them in the head with a 2×4 to knock sense in them, but also wanted an inauthentic image of someone that liked expensive clothes cars, and drinks. There was no good reason she was always acting tough, just like there was no good reason she was always going back and doing the opposite by trying to get people to indulge, spoil, and pamper her like a Disney princess, a cartoonish and unrealistic expectation of what people should do for her.
