Emo is a state of mind, or the modern term for depressed. What people say is emo, long hair, guyliner, converse, raccoon eyes, ect. is all called scene. Scene people are bubbly but deep. Emo on the other hand, is where something in ones life seems to have scarred them. They beleive there is no-one to run to, so they bottle stuff up, and or use self harm.
Scene kid: "YAAY! I bought a new Tu-tu and some new liquid eyeliner! VICTORY IS MINE"
Emo kid: "There is that side of me where im sad...but happy enough to fake being happy...then there are those days where i cant even bring myself to be happy"

Get the Emo mug.A stereotype created for people who wear a lot of black, listen to My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, shop in hot topic, dye their hair bold colors, and part their hair to the side.
"Look at that girl over there with the black skinny jeans and the band shirt."
" She must be an Emo."
" She must be an Emo."

Get the Emo mug.Emo can mean a lot of things, & as with any label, it is just one word trying to desribe something much bigger, so it's not strictly one thing or another, & it's meaning changes over time.
Originaly, emo was a music scene in the 90s & short for "emotive" now Emo is more generaly accepted to be short for the word "emotional" which is not to say one is more correct but that the word "emo" has changed over time.
1. A music genre of a typicaly melodramatic, not always depressing but often emotional rock genre, or a softer version of hard-core rock. Describes bands like MCR.
2. A type of indavidual, generaly a teen, who is very emotional. They may or may not listen to "emo" genre & may or not follow the "emo" style (black hair covering one eye, tight dark clothing, wrist bands...) they typicaly wear alot of black but don't have to, but are troubled indaviduals, often with a mood disorder &/or alot of abuse in their past. Some emos cut themselves or self-mutilate, but not all do. some are suicidal, but they don't have to be.
Alot of people would classify someone as "emo" who really is more "poser," or trying to "be" emo, or any other subculture, in order to get attention. (pretending to cut, making a point of wearing "emo" clothing...) This does NOT go for all emos.
3. Anything particularly dark or emotional. Any writing that is particularly anxty or talks about loss, depression, feeling of being alone or differant. The same goes for any form of artistic expression.

1. I like to listen to alot of music; i like metal, emo-rock, and some alternative.
2. I have been acting alot more emo since i got into high-school, becasue i have had alot more anxiety, and i find myself wearing alot more black.
3. This poem about my dog dying came out sounding really emo.

Get the Emo mug.Listen, I just want to start out by saying, emo is not a way to get attention. Emo is not a brand of music. Emo is not skinny jeans and ripped converse. Emo is not dyed black hair covering the face. Emo is emotional. Emo people aren't doing it for attention (well real emos don't) they do it to see if anyone cares. If there is anyone who gives a crap about their life. If no one is there then they commit suicide. Emo is a way of dealing with problems. The pain of cuts distract the pain from the rest of the world as The blood washes it away. So the next time you call someone a poser or drama queen, think about what they are going through.

Get the emo mug.Emo, (AKA Emocutwristalotitis) People who have a physical disorder that makes them unable to smile, causes their tear ducts to uncontrollably water, tune their ears into a minor key and causes 45 degree angled black hair to sprout!
Emo: Doctor, doctor what's wrong with me
Doctor: Seems you have Emocutwristalotitis, you should stay away from MCR, razor blades and hair straighteners if you wish to be cured!

Get the emo mug.Emos are stereotyped as people who have dark hair (usually black) that covers most of their face, they wear black eyeliner, black nail polish, converse, skinny jeans or"girl pants",&tight shirts(usually band t's).People think they listen to bands considered to be"emo"&think emos are depressed all the time&are suicidal&self-harm..Totally untrue. Not all emos are like that.Emos are people who feel emotions very strongly.Hint: emo=emotion.Whether it be happy, sad, mad, etc. They listen to whatever they want to&they don't have to dress or look a certain way!Yes, a lot of them may look like a stereotypical emo kid, but they're just wearing what they want. Sometimes they express themselves through clothing and makeup.Others do the same thing. Also, not all emos cut. Some do,some don't.Cutting(one of the many forms of Self-Harm),beingsuicidal,writing,going off alone, anything else you all would label as"emo"behaviors, they do it as a way to express their emotion or release what they feel&just because someone cuts it doesn't mean they're emo(people do it to cope with depression, just like people use alcohol to cope with it,and they need help.So next time you hear of someone harming themselves, think twice before you call them"a whiny emo fag"or something because that's what bullies do and we all need to stop bullying). Not all emos listen to"emo"bands and singers and wear dark clothing all the time and darkmakeup and shitand are depressed all the time. Stop stereotyping people.
Me: "If you all can't see what emo is by reading my definition, then I don't know what to do.
Two things I'd like to say though:
1.) Stop stereotyping people.
2.) Stop bullying emos...And don't just stop bullying emos. Stop bullying gays, people with disabilities, people you all label as 'nerds', people who self harm...Stop bullying EVERYONE. You don't know what people are going through. Their lives are hard enough and they don't need you to make it worse because you could drive them to suicide (which isn't funny AT ALL)."
