A battleaxe is usually an older woman, and often somewhat unattractive. The standard dictionary definition does not address looks, but one seldom hears a beautiful woman being called a battleaxe, no matter how disagreeable she is.

Battle of Midway 

A battle between American and Japanese forces in the Pacific. Attempts by the Japanese to lure the Americans to Alaska failed as the Americans had cracked the Japanese codes. Resulted in the destruction of the entire Japanese carrier fleet with the loss of only one American carrier and turned the tide in the Pacific War.
