A tough, unspectacular hockey player who is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. This is usually meant to be a compliment; a "grinder" is usually an overachiever.

Tough, gritty, hustling hockey player who stops the other team from scoring rather than scoring himself.

Jed Ortmeyer of the New York Rangers is a true grinder.

Grunter

Named after a popular South African sport-fish (Spotted Grunter - Pomadasys commersonni) which is known for grunting like a pig when landed, a grunter is a very unattractive woman.

The term is so widely used that young men developed a game called 'Hunt the Grunt' whereby each player adds money to a pot and the aim is to score the ugliest girl/woman possible on any one night. At the end a winner is decided by popular (unpopular) vote and he takes the pot. It is then his decision whether or not to buy his grunter a drink with his winnings.

A:Bro, that thing you scored last night was an absolute grunter!
B: Get fucked, meat is meat and a man must eat.

Pilgrims Meat Grinder

A sex act made famous in the 14th century by early enhabitants of Massachusetts and Philadelphia.

In this act the woman or reciever lays on their back and raises their feet over their head. At this time the giver inserts and proceeds to spin around the reciever in a meat grinder sort of fashion.

Grifter

A shill is a person who disingenuously sells a product or an idea.

By comparison, a grifter is a person who disingenuously sells a persona. A grifter purports to be or represent something, but they are actually not. They may:

* Pretend to be another ethnicity for a perceived benefit (e.g. Rachel Dolezal, Jack Murphy, Elizabeth Warren)
* Sell a life stance at odds with their actual private life (e.g. Jordan Peterson, Jack Murphy again)
* Aggressively promote some cause in advance of their personal gain (Shaun King, Patrisse Cullors)
* Scam naïve investors in a hopeless business venture (Elizabeth Holmes, Adam Neumann)

That grifter always shows up at incidents like this to bemoan cause x with his cap in his hand.
