A pseudo scientific field of research featuring everything from soothsaying, rune tossing and wild ass guessing, which specializes in the provision of foregone conclusions of apocalyptic predictions in order to acquire ever increasing sized quantities of largess from the public coffers.

Frightence in spite of its upward spiraling costs has never returned anything of any actual value beyond premises for fictional films.
