"Post-Trap" denotes a broad spectrum of active artists who saw success following Trap Rap's initial wave of underground popularity from the early 2000s to the mid 2010s. By 2015, artists began to diversify the genre through forgoing its lyrical and sonic similarities with Gangsta Rap, choosing instead to prioritize melody, atmosphere, and experimentation. While technically proficient lyricists are not uncommon, performances are typically simplified and often centered around a singular hook, with autotune and reverb being used to enhance the music's atmospheric and melodic qualities. The application of autotune to the performer's voice in a pop context is an aesthetic choice largely borrowed from Kanye West and Kid Cudi's late 2000s output, whom many have cited as having a sizeable impact on their music.

Recognizable by the usual accompaniment of pianos or violins, these are the songs that are inducing the collective menstrual cycles of the radio free world. Although usually reserved for male musicians, the term can, in some instances, be applied to the critique of female musicians if the faux-testosterone level is deemed beyond the “Vaginal Moanings” term assigned to the same music.
